The problem with uni-stone installation is it seems easy to compare
company’s pricing per square foot. Not true, what you don’t see is depth
of excavation, how you compact that base, and whether you put a fabric
down which adds 6” of compacted base. Just go around your neighborhood
and see all the jobs that are sub-par. I think that this is the most
frustrating part of my job. People should get what they pay for, not a
job that looks good for a few years, then slowly sinks into the ground.
Another thing that bothers me about uni-stone design, or lack of it,is
to much of it. I have been to construction sites as a consultant where I
have literally stopped the job and taken out uni-stone and added
planting beds. The customer was paying thousands and thousands of
dollars, and the finish product was an ugly cement looking pool area.
Plant design is such an intricate part of design and softens the look
dramatically, and can add privacy at the same time. So before you sign a
contract have me come over and have a look. It could be the best
investment you make.
